Family Adventure Holidays FAQs

We have tried our best to gather together a list of frequently asked questions. However, if you cannot find the answer to your question here we are happy to help so just call us on 01273 803030 or email us at

Château de la Baudonnière is perfect for families with younger children with activities suitable for children from 2 years of age.

Children from as young as 2 years of age can join in their own activity programme, however, we do ask that parents are present to ensure children settle and are happy. We will supervise some play sessions but generally, this will be with parents rather than instead of.  We can offer child bike seats if you fancy coming along on one of the adult cycle tours with your little one.

Our activity programme goes up to 16 years of age (and then into the adult programme) with different age-appropriate activities, so even if you have a family with a wide range of ages, there really is a lot to do for everyone.

What's more, once you arrive this is an all-inclusive holiday which means there really is nothing to spend your money on until the excursion to Mont Saint-Michel.

With an activity programme catering for 2 - 16 year olds, Château de la Baudonnière is best for families with a wide age range. This holiday offers something for every age group, from toddlers to teenagers and parents to grandparents:

  • Younger children - mini-farm, canoeing and breadmaking, as well as plenty of games and creative missions.
  • Older children - climbing wall, aeroball, archery, air rifling (teens only) and biking.
  • Big kids - adult-only activities include bike rides and clay pigeon shooting
  • All ages - family fancy dress party, quiz, disco and visit to Mont Saint-Michel

Both Normandy holidays are all-inclusive but they have a different mix of activities and a different pace.

The Mont Saint-Michel centre, La Grand Ferme, is smaller and more relaxed than the programme at Château de la Baudonnière. Many activities at La Grand Ferme are centred around the swimming pool – water polo, water gym and various games which are not suitable for children under 6 years of age.

The evenings in La Grand Ferme are also more relaxed with fewer organised activities. Adults can mostly be found playing Petanque, a game of cards or just chilling in the hammocks whilst the children enjoy exploring the grounds and making use of the sports facilities, table tennis and football.

The Mont Saint-Michel holiday is better suited to families who want to explore the local area and includes an excursion to the D-Day Landing beaches (approximately 1.5 hours travel time) whilst the Château takes a trip to the local conservation zoo. The Mont St-Michel bay walk and quick sand experience from La Grand Ferme is longer than the one from the Château de la Baudonnière.

The Château de la Baudonnière programme is more suitable for families with younger children (from 2 years) while La Grand Ferme is best enjoyed by families with children aged 6 and over.

We have a structured programme of activities which begins on the first morning of your holiday. Every day we run morning and afternoon activity sessions. We have specific activity sessions for children (children are divided into age ranges to make sure everyone gets the most from the session) and different activities for adults, and some activities are undertaken as families. During the week we also take a trip to Mont Saint-Michel to experience the breathtaking views and the excitement of quicksands. Some evening activities are also provided.

La Grand Ferme holiday tends to be slightly more laid back with a few breaks in the programme during which you can relax compared to the fast and furious pace of the Chateau.  However please remember, this is your holiday, you do not have to take part in everything.

You and your family are in safe hands.

All adventure activities are provided by qualified instructors who go through an intensive selection and training process and require two references, an enhanced DBS check and First Aid certification. All lead instructors hold an appropriate National Governing Body qualification.

What's more, our watersports programmes at the Mediterranean Watersports and the Ardeche Kayak Expedition are subject to a biannual inspection by Adventuremark, an independent body which ensures we meet the best practice standards.

While all activities, entry to excursions, equipment and tuition with qualified instructors is included in the price of the holiday, some parental supervision is required for younger children to participate.

There is loads for little ones to do at Château de la Baudonnière where we have created fun, imaginative activities for young children and their parents to do together such as bread making, visiting the mini farm and outside games.

We do not recommend our Mont Saint-Michel holiday to families with children under 6 years of age as we cannot offer many activities for them.

We do not recommend our Mediterranean Watersports or Ardeche Kayak Expedition holidays to families with children under the age of 8 years old although please talk to us if you have particularly active youngsters or have a mix of age ranges in your family.

Our family adventures at Château de la Baudonnière and La Grand Ferme include all your food. Each day will consist of a continental breakfast, wholesome French lunch and good quality evening meal with a reasonable amount of wine, cider and beer provided in the evening. Breakfast will be the last meal provided on departure.

The Mediterranean Watersports holiday includes 3 picnic lunches and 2 BBQs.

The Ardeche Kayak Expedition includes dinner and breakfast during the 2-day descent of the river and lunch during the 5 activity days.

Château de la Baudonnière offers evening entertainment each night for the whole family such as the talent show, campfire and sports tournament. You can choose whether to join in or sit and watch. Our Mont Saint-Michel holiday is more relaxed with some evening entertainment.

Our Mediterranean Watersports and Ardeche Kayak Expedition holidays offer some evening entertainment, but recovering from the day's adventure tend to be the favourite!

At our Normandy centres you can dive in and join the fun or sit back and relax. It's up to you - this is your holiday - you choose if you wish to join in and there is plenty to join in with!

Yes - as part of our booking conditions, insurance to cover all activities is required. Travel insurance is not included in the price of our holidays.
