All of the following exciting activities are available on our Med Beach Club Med programme. Our activity base, the ‘beach club’, is ideally situated at the Plage des Pins, right in the heart of Argelès.
The whole family will be welcomed down to the water's edge to receive a brief before heading out onto the water with a great view of the Pyrenees in the distance. After some tuition from our qualified instructors the session will move on to a variety of games to help perfect your paddling technique.
Argelès sur Mer and the local area is a mecca for windsurfers due to the prevailing winds known as the Tramontane and the Marin. During the summer months these winds provide fantastic conditions for learning with very light winds in the morning that fill in throughout the afternoon. Our base in Argelès has a huge range of windsurf boards and sails to accommodate any level of ability. The ratio of guests to instructor is kept to a minimum for this activity to allow individuals to progress at their own pace.
This unique water park enables you to enjoy all the thrills of a natural canyon in a secure and controlled artificial environment. Your qualified instructor will guide you through the canyon for an adventure you will never forget. There are 14 pools to go through in total including: jumps from 3 to 9 metres, rock slides, abseils under waterfalls, rope ladders and the grand finale of a 100m zip line into the final pool. This one of a kind canyoning park allows you to experience so much more than you would normally in uncontrolled conditions and without the inherent risk. Not available to children under 10 years of age.
Families can come face-to-face with octopuses and starfish on our snorkelling trip. Diving into the water from giant stand-up paddleboards (SUPS) in the harbour of picturesque Collioure, adults and children are taken down to an underwater reef to meet the colourful sea-life which also includes cuttlefish, sea urchins, mullet and sea bream.
The beautiful fishing village of Collioure has an unusually large number of art galleries, possibly due to it becoming the centre of artistic activity in the early 1900s and continues its popularity with artists today. Collioure became the home of the Fauvist Movement because of the rare quality of the light. Twenty copies of Matisse and Derain paintings are placed around the town at spots from which the originals were painted.
''No sky in all France is more blue than that of Collioure'' Matisse.
Other than exploring the medieval streets and sampling Catalan food and AOC (local Collioure wine, similar to Banyuls), there is a Royal Castle and a lighthouse, now converted into a church.
Our team will be happy to book you into one of their favourite restaurants for lunch - please just ask.
Our thrilling white water rafting trip takes place on the River Aude in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The route takes you through some of the most spectacular scenery with the sheer cliffs of the gorge winding their way through the valley and its villages. Very few flat sections means this route is a non-stop adrenaline rush. With our professional guides at the helm and issuing the instructions; you will have to ‘paddle left!’ & ‘paddle right!’ to navigate the rapids and avoid the fast approaching obstacles.
Stand-up paddleboarding has, in less than ten years, spread from surf beaches to nearly every other type of watercourse. The BIC 11’4 boards we have are perfect for beginners to hone their skills and provide a great platform for games. Our instructors will teach you how to balance, paddle and turn, through a variety of games and drills.
Again the local winds provide a fantastic environment for novice sailors. Our fleet of funboats provide the perfect platform for those new to sailing or for those that want to try a solo sail for the first time. For the more experienced or ‘adrenaline junkies’ we have the Hoby 16’s that really fly when the wind gets up. When the winds not so strong they make an extremely good sunbathing platform too.
I can honestly say that our trip to Argelès was as good as anything I have been on. Superb location, great campsite, super friendly and keen staff and really good value for money. I'm sure we will be back.David Merifield
